Cigarette Tar Filters 2026: What They Do and How to Choose
What add-on tar filters are
"Tar" is the sticky residue of the particles in cigarette smoke, and it contains many harmful substances. An add-on filter is attached to the filter tip of a cigarette, so the smoke passes through an extra filter before it reaches your mouth. Two-stage designs combine two filter stages in sequence.

What to compare

Choosing by smoker profile
For slim cigarette smokers
Slim cigarettes are thinner than the 8 mm standard, so filters made for 8 mm sit loosely on them, can fall off or let smoke leak around the edge. Teerless offers two sizes for thinner cigarettes: Slim (6 mm, with adapters for 5 mm) and Slender+Slim (6.6–7.1 mm).
For heavy smokers (20+ cigarettes/day)

What to be careful about
Be sceptical of filter marketing that promises precise reduction percentages, "safe" or "healthy" smoking, or nicotine-free smoke — no filter delivers that. Check that the filter fits your cigarette, and replace disposable filters as the manufacturer recommends rather than using them for longer.
